Eat at Moyzilla for Jeremy

Admittedly, I don't go out for lunch that often.   And I surely do not visit the food trucks nearly as much as I would like.  But, I hope to stop by the Moyzilla food truck sometime between now and Tuesday the 2nd of August to order a Pineapple Chicken Teriyaki meal box with fried garlic aioli, currently called the Chiu-zilla meal box in honor of Jeremy Chiu - a member of the Moyzilla family who passed away recently.

According to the Moyzilla Facebook post:

"All the proceeds from the "Chiu-zilla" mealboxes (to get the full experience, ask for it with scallion rice and extra aioli, Jeremy wouldn't have it any other way) will go directly to Jeremy's family to help cover the cost of the funeral."

Now, if that isn't a good reason to go out for lunch, I don't know what is.

Food Truck 2015: Chili, Mango & Lime and The Roving Lunch Box

With the season winding down, I was a bit surprised to find another new to me food truck.  And not just one, but two!

Parked right next door, also at the City Hall Plaza that Monday, was The Roving Lunch Box.

The Roving Lunch Box
Their specialty is the hand pie, in both savory and sweet variety, which can be made into a $9 meal with the addition of a small soup or salad.

I selected their Roasted Butternut & Browned Butter Sage savory hand pie, which was $5 for one, or $9 for two.

It came with some pickled vegetables, and was a good size for a snack, but for a meal, you'd definitely want to supersize it one way or another.

Food Truck 2015: Tastes of Anatolia

Another new truck this season is the Tastes of Anatolia, which I finally ran into along the Esplanade on the Fourth of July.

Turns out Anatolia is a track of land in modern day Turkey.

On this visit, we sampled their beef and cheese (mozzarella) gozleme (stuffed flatbread).  I suspect the texture would have been better if we had immediately consumed our pies, however, after a walk back to our spot along the Charles, the bread had softened in the plastic container.  The flavor, however, was still quite tasty.

Food Truck 2015: New Wheels on the Road

With but a single stomach to my name, it's going to take me a while to make my way through the new Food Trucks in our midst.  In the meantime, however, I've wandered about the city this week to take a gander at their menus...

Food Trucks 2015: Stuffed Sopapillas

Stuffed Sopapillas at SoWa on Opening Day
As the snow finally melted and flowers began poking out, the Boston Food Truck season began on April 1, 2015.  And with this new season, a number of new to me food trucks rolled out.  Stuffed Sopapillas was the first of these to catch my eye.

One word of advice, if you are among the fortunate ones to work within lunching distance of a regular food truck location, you might want to consider skipping out on SoWa's opening week at least.  I learned this the hard way, through standing in a line for over half an hour to place my order, then waiting in a crowd for an hour more till the warm Avocado BLT with Special Sauce Sopapilla $8 was finally delivered into my eager hands.

Consuming the crisp bacon pocket was short work, though it didn't quite fully satiate my lunchtime appetite.

Spread the Happy!

Yesterday the Nutella Truck made a stop at Faneuil Hall - it's fifth and final stop in the Boston area before it heads onward on its 20 city tour across America.  Free sample packets of the luscious chocolate hazelnut spread were given out, and I had immediate gratification in the piece of waffle I ate with a generous smear of the stuff.  Yum!

Tour locations through October:
New York, New Jersey, Boston, Baltimore, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Raleigh, Greensboro, Atlanta, Charleston, Orlando, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Minneapolis, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, and New Orleans.

Food Truck Recognition

Given that the common consensus of the Boston dining scene is that it is typically rated behind that of other larger metropolitan cities such as New York City, consider my pride and amazement at running across a list where Boston was not only the first of the 7 listed in "These Gourmet Food Trucks Are Worth Following" but the last!  Yes, Boston was well represented with 2 of our terrific food trucks making Reader's Digest's list, despite the relative newness of the whole Food Truck scene in our fair city.

Food Truck Throwdown!

It doesn't look like I can't go myself (*sniff*), but the first annual Food Truck Throwdown between Boston and New York is hitting Dewey Square this coming Saturday.

I do wonder how they'll decide who wins though, since as a local, I can hit the Boston trucks anytime I can find them, so I'd most likely choose to spend my precious tummy space trying out a variety of options from the New York trucks, if I made it out there...

From the official site:

1st ANNUAL “FOOD TRUCK THROWDOWN!”

Boston and New York City to go Head to Head on the Rose Kennedy Greenway

WHAT: Food Truck Throwdown,“Boston vs. NYC” – a daylong competition which pits seven food trucks from Boston against seven food trucks from New York City as contestants vie for the title of Best Food Truck. Live music, celebrity judges including Jenny Johnson of NECN’s TV Diner, and tons of great eats = fun for the entire family. Admission is free, enjoying the food (and why wouldn’t you want to?) will require you to bring your wallet.

WHO: Sara Ross, owner of Kickass Cupcakes, is the creative force behind the first annual Food Truck Throwdown,“Boston vs. NYC” along with support from the city of Boston, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino, and the Boston food truck community.

WHERE: The first annual Food Truck Throwdown,“Boston vs. NYC” will take place in Dewey Square on the Rose Kennedy Greenway, Boston’s hottest food truck location. The Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy (www.rosekennedygreenway.org) piloted a food vending program called “Greenway Mobile Eats” in 2010, and the program continues to expand. Today, 16 food vendors operate in seven locations along the Greenway, with the goal of having 12-18 food vendors on the Greenway every season. For more information, visit www.rosekennedygreenway.org.

WHEN:  Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM.  Free Admission.

No Soup for Me

Larry Thomas, the Soup Nazi of the Seinfield TV series fame, arrived in Boston today along with the Seinfield food truck to greet fans and to give away a variety of Seinfield-themed food and drink.  They were scheduled to be at the Dewey Square location by South Station from 3-4pm, however, I heard that they had arrived late as they had been delayed at the Harvard Square spot (noon - 2pm) due to the wonderful turn-out.

The line was super long when I arrived on the scene shortly after 3:30pm, and those of us at the end of the line were were soon told that we were unlikely to get the chance to meet the Soup Nazi, as they had to shut things down at 4pm on the dot.

So nope, I didn't get to have my picture taken with the Soup Nazi.  I did, however, go home with a keychain, black & white cookie, Twix, and Snickers (the latter two both rather melted), as after the Soup Nazi departed, his henchmen continued to give away the remaining goodies.  But there was no soup for me... as the literal soup had sadly run out early on.
